Empty Space

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. A couple months ago I went to MySpace to check in on my old site and, well, I tripped and fell. I laid there for days and no one came by to help -- it was awful.

Finally I thought I heard someone else log in, but it was just some a-hole promoting a garage band. He just uploaded a horrible video and left -- imagine laying there for two weeks listening to some spoiled kids from the burbs talk about how horrible it is to be rich and bored.I tried posting to del.icio.us for help, but let's face it, unless it's a photo of a nude celebrity or a wild conspiracy theory, no one reads anything there. I got smarter when I posted to reddit.com and said that I was a hot 20 year old blonde with a fetish for overweight, over-confident guys who love PHP progamming and that I needed help configuring my linux box...

...I was almost trampelled with the response.

Anyway, I'm glad to be back, and wanted to celebrate by sharing this little gem, courtesy of http://www.livfilms.com/:

Riddle Me This...

Hey, I know I've been a slacker this summer, but I swear I've got some new posts brewing.

In the meantime, if you're like me you've absolutely run out of quizzes and surveys to take on facebook, so I ventured into the perverse world of over-the-top self-promotion social marketing and wrote my own:

is now available for FREE to all dedicated fans.

(Actually, it's free to everyone, but go ahead, gloat a little.)

Enjoy and spread the word like mono on a marching band trip...I'll be back with more juicy, original bits soon.

Oh, and you can become a fan of the damn thing too - because you know, you've got that kinda time:

Need help with the app? Have a question about it? Leave it as a comment and I'll laugh...and then maybe help.

JMadison commented on your status...

If facebook quiz makers were our Founding Fathers...

...we would have the “inaliable right to a purse, suits and happiness.”

...we could all “keep bear arms in our houses to help keep the military regular.”

...the States could make no law “that deep rives anybodies life, library or property without dewey process.”

...we would have the right to “speedos and a pubic trial by a partial jury.”

...it would be illegal “for the governments to hide soldiers quarters in your house.

and

...we would have "the right to have free seizures in our house without being violated, unless there was reasonable claws."

(Oh, and there is at least one quiz that's written fairly good...I mean well.)

"The Fargo Effect?" Aww...Jeez

(I know I missed the chance to get this in as a new Oscar category - maybe next year)

It seems that there's a growing trend in comedy movies.

First, a zany, offbeat movie comes out and everyone (except you) goes to see it.
Then for the next several months all you hear are the catch phrases from the movie.
Finally, when it's on DVD, pay-per-view or HBO, you finally sit down and watch it - and it really seems to disappoint.

But then it happens...

...you find yourself quoting the movie now, too.

And over time it seems funnier and funnier.

I've had enough conversations to know I'm not alone in this, but I want to know what you, the great unwashed (and even a few of the lightly rinsed) feel about it:

Has it happened to you?

What movies come to mind?

Which movie was either
(1) the first to demonstrate it or
(2) demonstrates the "it'll be funnier later" phenomenon better than any others?

Shall it be known as...

..."The Fargo Effect?"
..."The Python Effect?"
..."The Napoleon (Dynamite) Effect?"

Anyway, weigh in. Give examples, discuss the abstractions of the whole thing, or just throw in the name of the movies that you think fit. Leave them as comments here, over at the facebook fan page, or - if you're really secretive - e-mail me.

I'll post a survey with the front runners to see which film gets the great honor.

UPDATE: Current films under consideration...

  • Fargo
  • Napoleon Dynamite
  • Step Brothers

Self Ef-face-ing Humor

This video was forwarded by a friend...and no, not just a facebook friend:

Now, don't let that stop you from using facebook ...buddy.

(Bonus irony: Share this with all your old classmates on facebook by clicking here.)

Sorry (7 points)

Hey, sorry I've been a little aloof for the beginning on 2009. Rough hangover.

No seriously, I've been spending more time...way too much time...over at facebook playing Scramble. Have you tried this? It's like Boggle, just a little more pathetic because you can do it with absolutely no human interaction at all.

If you have tried Scramble, you should try the new Ann Coulter version. It's harder because words like "FEMINIST," "LIBERAL" and "DEMOCRATS" only count as 4 letter words.

iSenior

So, there's a new social networking site for those refusing to age gracefully.

It's called faceliftbook.com.

Reviews are mixed. Some said the site looked fake and unable to express emotion. Still hopes are high for members from the growing number of babyboomers hitting retirement age.

Like those diabetic shakes, the site is available in different flavors. The ad-free version is supported by a subscription. The fees currently run $5 for 1 year, $20 for one decade or $25 for a lifetime membership. Of course, for smokers, the lifetime membership is only $14.95.

The free version will be supported by advertisers. The advertising sales force was vague on who would be sponsoring the site, though. When asked what products would be targeted at the site's older members, all their advertising contact would say was "Depends."

In addition to erectile dysfunction ads, members can except to see ads from a new ED placebo. This blue shaped pill may cause hearing loss or vision problems; however, it does nothing to improve male performance -- but does help his wife get more sleep. The pill will be marketed under the name "Cryagra."

The site will be available in large-print, and will include a built-in instant messaging interface. Technologically challenged members can opt to have the instant messages sent to them via postcard instead.
